Rahul, a B.Tech Computer Science student from VIT Chennai, shared his experience securing a 6-month internship at Baker Hughes with a potential full-time conversion.
Eligibility: All B.Tech CSE, IT, and circuit branch students with a minimum CGPA of 6 (or 60%) in 10th, 12th, and pursuing degree, with no standing arrears. However, a CGPA cutoff of 9 was applied for shortlisting.
Round 1: Digital Interview (HireVue)
An AI-based round with 5 HR/managerial-type questions where candidates recorded their answers. Questions included project challenges and how they were overcome.
Round 2: Technical Test (MCQs)
An online MCQ test, typically on a Microsoft form, with around 30 questions to be completed in 30 minutes. Topics included Aptitude, DSA, DBMS, OS, and Computer Networking.
Round 3: Group Discussion (GD)
Groups of 10 people were given a common topic, usually related to the energy space, and discussed for about 20 minutes. The candidate advised presenting new points rather than repeating others and demonstrating active listening.
Round 4: Technical Interview
This round lasted for about 1 hour 15 minutes with two interviewers. It started with resume discussion, focusing on projects (e.g., in MATLAB) and innovative components. Core skills like DSA were then assessed, with theoretical questions on time/space complexity and live coding questions on Linked Lists (e.g., finding a cycle, sorting). The questions were generally easy to medium LeetCode level. SQL queries were also asked.
Round 5: Project Manager Interview (Leadership Round)
This was described as a technical + HR round, with a project manager and a senior software developer. Questions were application-based, focusing on how the candidate would use technical skills (AI/ML in this case) to solve company problems. Behavioral questions included aspirations, reasons for joining Baker Hughes, and contributions to the company.
Overall Experience: The process involved quick transitions between rounds, sometimes receiving interview links within 15 minutes of completing the previous one, highlighting the need for advanced preparation.
