Experience:

The selection process for the Data Engineer role at Honda R&D Japan involved four main stages.

1. Google Form with Essay Questions: This initial step included basic information and three essay questions. These questions aimed to assess the candidate's understanding of their major, role priorities, and genuine interest in Honda and the specific role. It was crucial to align personal experiences and skills with Honda's vision and values, avoiding generic or AI-generated responses.

2. Technical Test: The online technical test covered quantitative aptitude, general aptitude, and coding. The questions were typical of general company tests, and standard preparation was deemed sufficient. The advice given was not to get stuck on a single problem.

3. Technical Interview (Offline/In-person): This round started with an introduction from the candidate, followed by in-depth questions about internships and projects listed on the resume. Interviewers focused on identifying challenging aspects of these experiences, how they were overcome, and the lessons learned. A key technical question involved discussing the differences between a "Data Analyst" and a "Data Engineer."

4. Managerial Round (Online): Conducted by a manager, this round revisited some technical discussions, including the distinction between Data Analyst and Data Engineer, where the candidate had refined their answer after the first round. The interviewer also asked about the candidate's perception of their resume, strengths, and how they felt the interview went.
