Experience:
The candidate, with three years of experience as an SDE, was approached by a recruiter for an Associate role. The interview process was rigorous and involved multiple technical rounds.
- Round 1 (HackerRank Challenge): A 2-hour online assessment with two easy array-based questions, which the candidate completed in one hour.
- Round 2 (CoderPad Conundrum): This 1-hour round consisted of two main problems: a string transformation task (e.g., converting "aaabbcbbb" to "a3b2c1b3") and a rephrased version of the "Trapping Rainwater" problem. The candidate completed these in 30 minutes.
- Super Day (Interview Marathon): This involved three back-to-back technical rounds, each serving as an elimination point.
- Super Day Round 1: Lasted slightly over an hour. It tested pseudo-coding skills with problems like finding the longest common substring and array manipulations. The round also delved into HashMap internals (hashcode, collision handling, bucket mapping), OOP, garbage collection, and application monitoring from the resume.
- Super Day Round 2: A full hour with diverse questions on trees and their searches, version control systems (Git's intricacies), and data structure comparisons. The candidate was also grilled on project experiences, SDLC, testing strategies, and Enums in Java.
- Super Day Round 3: Another hour-long round, split between two interviewers. The first half involved discussions about projects, serialization, and low-level designs for a financial chatbot, along with high-level designs focusing on queuing services. The latter half focused on designing browser navigation keys (forward and backward functionalities).
Despite best efforts and thorough preparation, the candidate was unable to proceed to the final Hiring Manager round, resulting in a rejection.
