The candidate applied for a fully remote Technical Lead position in Canada via the company website. The initial HR interview went smoothly, with the HR person appearing to be in a rush to hire.
A follow-up interview with the hiring manager was scheduled, but the manager did not show up. HR apologized and rescheduled for the following week. In the rescheduled interview, the hiring manager attended alone and did not acknowledge the previous missed appointment. The interview itself reportedly went great, with the manager asking about the candidate's experience and why they would be a good fit.
Towards the end, the hiring manager stated that they had interviewed four people, liked the candidate, and would forward their name to HR for the next step, a technical interview. Curiously, the manager also told the candidate not to mention this to HR. Despite this positive feedback, the candidate received no updates the following week. After reaching out, they received an automated email stating their application had been closed and they were not selected, leading to a feeling of being ghosted after a "bizarre" experience.
