Topics Asked: Machine coding (wallet system design), DSA (GFG hard questions), System Design (JukeBox/Spotify design, API, Schema, Databases, Indexing), Behavioral (academic background, projects, challenges, measuring success).
The candidate applied randomly in Jan 2024, then got an email for a drive in March 2024, which was initially ghosted but then rescheduled.
Round 1: Machine Coding (2.5 hours). This round was online with 20-25 people. The first 30 minutes were for clarifying doubts about the problem. The next 90 minutes were for coding a demonstrable solution for a wallet system design with various functionalities. The candidate chose Java, focused on basic approach, loose coupling, and HashMap for data storage. The final 30 minutes were for reviewing the solution. The overall round was easy to moderate.
Round 2: DSA Round (1 hour). This round had two GFG hard questions. The interviewer was helpful with hints, and the candidate was able to solve both. The round was moderate, and the interviewer made the candidate comfortable.
Round 3: Design Round (1 hour). Two people were present, one shadowing. The task was to design a JukeBox/Spotify system. The candidate listed 8 features, asked for NFRs, and used a design framework. The round was a discussion covering API design, Schema design, Schema relations, Databases, and indexing.
Round 4: Hiring Manager Round (1 hour). This round was initially with a Director of Engineering and focused on academic background, subject interests, CGPA, high school interests, etc. The candidate felt it went decently but was then informed of "callouts" and had the round rescheduled. The second HM round was with a Senior Engineering Manager, focusing on project explanations, roles, difficulties faced, and how solutions were measured. This round went well.
