The candidate applied directly for the "Software Developer: University Hire" role through DevRev's career page. The process started with an automated email for a test on the CodeSignal platform. This test included MCQs on basic algorithms and data structures, along with programming questions that were algorithmically simple but had slightly complex implementations.
Upon clearing the test, the candidate was called for an initial **Screening Round**. This round was described as enjoyable, a mix of behavioral questions, coding problems, debugging problems, math questions, and logic puzzles. The interviewer was helpful, and the coding and debugging problems were new, interesting, and easy.
Next was the **Technical Interview #1**. The questions were easy to moderate. The candidate struggled with a simple linked list problem but was able to solve it with significant hints from the interviewer. Despite feeling the interview went poorly, they were selected for subsequent rounds.
A **Cultural Interview #1** followed, which focused entirely on teamwork in past projects. The candidate found this hour-long interview monotonous due to its singular theme.
The **Technical Interview #2** began with questions about the candidate's past projects. Subsequently, they were asked to design a technology mentioned in their resume, which was an unexpected system design question. The candidate approached this by listing expectations, functionalities, data structures, and algorithms. This was followed by a simple coding problem.
Then came the **Cultural Interview #2**, which was more conversational. The interviewer aimed to understand the candidate better, posing "why" extensions to previous responses.
The final round was a **Founder Interview** with Manoj Agarwal. He provided brief feedback on all previous interviews and allowed the candidate to ask questions about DevRev. The discussion covered topics like IITK, entrepreneurship, and DevRev, feeling more like a conversation than an evaluation.
The candidate received an offer but ultimately decided not to join DevRev.
