Difficulty: Easy to Medium (for DSA)
Rounds: 2 Technical Rounds
Topics Asked: OOPS concepts, Java (Core Java, scenario-based questions, code output), Multi-threading, Telecom domain/protocols, Data Structures (Array, Linked List), System Design (discussion on previous work/projects)
This experience is from Subhajit Chakrabortty, who received an off-campus offer from Ciena. Typically, there are technical rounds and a manager round, but in this case, due to a hiring drive, the candidate had two technical rounds on the same day, each lasting 30-45 minutes.
The rounds heavily focused on OOPS concepts and Java knowledge. Questions were not typical theoretical ones but rather scenario-based, often involving a block of code where the candidate had to determine if it would compile or what its output would be.
Multi-threading was a significant focus, and knowledge of protocols or the telecom domain was considered an advantage, as Ciena is a telecom company.
Two DSA questions were asked, generally at an easy to medium LeetCode level. For this candidate, one DSA question was on arrays and another on linked lists.
The second round delved deeper into OOPS concepts. There were no questions specifically on SQL or DBMS for this candidate. System design questions might come as part of discussions around previous work and projects. Candidates are advised to have sound knowledge of their past projects.
The company's tech stack is broad, including Python, Java, JavaScript (React.js), Docker, Kafka, and NoSQL, depending on the team and microservice architecture.
