A Software Developer with 7 years of experience shared their interview experience for an SDE 3 role at Cashfree Payments. The process was initiated after applying online and being contacted by a recruiting agency.
Round 1: Coding and Code Review Round
The interviewer was an SDE 4 with 9 years of experience. Basic easy-medium level coding questions, common to most companies, were asked. A code review was also conducted, where the candidate was expected to understand code logic, act as a reviewer, and provide meaningful comments. This round was described as "a breeze."
Round 2: Machine Coding Round
This round involved discussing and writing the logic for a Tic-Tac-Toe game. Improvements and the "hows and whys" of the approach were discussed. This round was considered "pretty easy," and the interviewer was very knowledgeable.
Round 3: High-Level Design Round
The candidate was asked to design a notification service. Although a standard question, the candidate had previously implemented a similar service, so preparation wasn't an issue.
Round 4: Director Round
This round required an on-site visit to the office. The experience was described as "underwhelming" due to several issues: waiting for 2 hours for the director, the director appearing sleepy during the interview, and a perceived lack of technical acumen when counter-questioned. The director also expressed skepticism about the candidate's achievements. The candidate felt they were never truly in contention after this round.
