This experience details the placement process for a Graduate Software Engineer at Commonwealth Bank of Australia, which included an Online Assessment (OA) and two offline interview rounds.
Round 1: Online Assessment (OA) The OA was conducted in a lab setting. It consisted entirely of MCQ questions, with no specific coding questions. Topics covered included technical questions related to OOPS, DBMS, and Computer Networks (CN), along with some aptitude questions. Results were typically released within a week.
Round 2: Technical Interview This was an offline, one-to-one technical interview. The questions asked varied significantly among candidates due to multiple interview panels. For the interviewee, the focus was heavily on their projects and internships, with detailed questions about the project idea, its real-life applications, database schema, and backend/frontend implementations. Some general technical questions were also asked, such as the differences between Java and C++. While some friends were asked difficult DSA questions, including graph problems, this candidate did not face many DSA questions. The interview lasted 40-50 minutes and also included some basic HR-related questions.
Round 3: HR Round This was a short HR round, lasting 10-15 minutes. The interviewer asked basic HR questions, and inquired about the candidate's preferred tech stack, technologies of interest, future project aspirations, and how these aligned with CBA's interests and work culture.
The candidate, Vashni, was successfully placed at Commonwealth Bank of Australia. Suggestions for cracking the interview included having strong knowledge, good presentation skills, and a complete skill set covering DSA, projects, and coding abilities.
