This candidate was referred by an engineering manager at Agoda for a Full Stack Role in Agoda Thailand and received a call from the recruiter after a couple of weeks.
Round 1: DSA: This round involved two medium-level Data Structures and Algorithms questions. It was a HackerRank interview where the candidate had to explain their approach and write code that passed all test cases. The candidate completed both questions in about 35 minutes, followed by a short discussion with the interviewer. Verdict: Strong Hire.
Round 2: JavaScript and React: The interviewer asked questions on JavaScript concepts around session management, promises, and some scenario-based questions. A significant portion of the discussion revolved around web development performance, specifically how to improve Lighthouse scores. The candidate explained LCP, FID, TTI, and TBT based on their prior work. The round concluded with discussions on testing in React (unit, integration, E2E testing). Verdict: Hire.
Round 3: Backend / HLD: This was a practical backend round. The interviewer provided a rough High-Level Design (HLD) of a system and explained its functional requirements. The candidate was then asked to propose improvements to make the HLD more reliable, robust, and scalable. Questions were also asked about testing types performed at their current organization (unit, integration, E2E, load, A/B testing). Finally, a snippet of code from the HLD was provided, and the candidate had to review it, suggesting PR comments they would leave. Verdict: Hire.
Round 4: Hiring Manager (HM) Round: Both the Hiring Manager and a Director were present. The HM asked numerous questions about the candidate's current projects and role, focusing on leadership skills, conflict management, and handling short deadlines. Following this, several hypothetical scenarios were presented, and the candidate was asked how they would conduct themselves and handle those situations. Verdict: Hire.
