Detailed experience
Type: Written Round This was a pen-and-paper based MCQ round. There were 15 questions covering different topics such as Aptitude, Operating Systems, DSA, Machine Learning, etc. Around 10–11 questions were very basic. The remaining questions were slightly conceptual, for example, asking about the main difference between top-p and top-k sampling in language models. Round 1 Type: Technical Interview (45 mins) There was a panel of 2 interviewers. The discussion mainly revolved around 2 projects from my resume. They asked questions like: Why did you choose this approach? What could be an alternative? One of my projects was a BMS (Book Management System) from a Software Systems course. They asked how I would convert it into a real product and how the database design would change, since I had used file-based storage in the project. In my Appointment Scheduler project, they asked how I would handle appointments with priority. They were expecting something like using priority queues at the business logic layer or using an ORDER BY clause at the database level. Overall, the interviewer focused on general design thinking and practical improvements rather than deep technical implementation details. I cleared this round. Round 2 Type: HR / Behavioral (30 mins) Again, there were 2 interviewers conducting this round. They asked general behavioral questions such as: How do you stay up to date with technology? How do you handle conflicts? I answered these with standard responses about continuous learning, communication, and collaboration. Then they asked a situation-based question: “What would you do if a client requests a feature that you believe will cause problems in the future, but the client strongly insists on building it? Would you build it anyway? If not, how would you convince the client to take a different approach?” I responded by talking about clear communication, discussing technical risks with the client, involving the manager and team, and proposing alternative solutions. Experience I believe I may have been rejected because of the situation-based question, even though I felt I answered it reasonably well. It is possible that other candidates provided stronger or more structured responses. It was a one-day drive. Some candidates were interviewed for ML roles, while I applied for an SDE role. In my case, they did not go deeply into technical details in any of the rounds.
