The candidate interviewed for a Software Engineer III role and was ultimately rejected. The process involved two main technical rounds.
Round 1: DSA (60 minutes)
The round was initially delayed due to the interviewer not joining on time but was rescheduled for the next day.
Coding Questions:
1. A binary tree problem where two players are playing: one starts from the Root and another from any random node. The root player can go down, but the other can only go up at each step. Both play together, and the goal is to maximize the score for the player starting from the root.
2. Course scheduling problem.
Round 2: LLD + HLD (60 minutes)
This round started with a resume discussion. Questions were then asked about the Java version used by the candidate's company and new features in Java 17. The interviewer then presented a "Jukebox" problem. The candidate found the interviewer disengaged and switching contexts frequently between HLD, DSA, and LLD (OOPs), making it difficult to settle on a design direction. Random questions about high availability were asked in the last 15 minutes while the interviewer was scrolling on their phone.
Verdict: The candidate received a rejection email.
