This on-campus interview process for a Software Developer role at Verizon consisted of four rounds.
Round 1: Coding and Aptitude
This round began with an essay writing section where candidates had 25 minutes to write 190-224 words on the topic: “How video games help the teachers”. Following this, there were two coding questions: "Weird Number Problem" (find if a number is weird) and "Array Manipulation" (maximize digits in an array `arr` using elements from `rep`, e.g., `arr = [1, 3, 0, 2, 4, 5]; rep = [6, 9, 7]; Output: [9, 3, 7, 6, 4, 5]`). Bonus points were awarded for optimizing time and space complexity. The coding section was followed by Verbal Reasoning (two sections, 1 minute and 4 minutes each) and a Logical Test consisting of Cut-e games.
Round 2: Group Discussion
48 candidates were shortlisted for this round and divided into 4 groups. Each group had the freedom to choose their own discussion topic. Evaluation was based on fluency, ability to lead, effectiveness in conveying points, validity and value of points, and body language. 24 candidates were shortlisted for the next round.
Round 3: Technical Interview
The interviewer was described as friendly. The interview started with an introduction from the candidate, followed by a discussion about projects worked on, with a focus on why those projects were chosen. Hobbies and extracurricular activities were also discussed. This round lasted approximately 30-40 minutes. 16 candidates advanced to the final round.
Round 4: HR Interview
This round was straightforward.
Tips: The candidate advised working hard and smart, practicing coding on platforms like LeetCode, GFG, HackerRank, and CodeChef, researching the company, and speaking fluently during discussions and interviews.
