The interview process for a full-time role at Barclays in 2023 consisted of several rounds. Out of approximately 250 applicants, 28 were selected for the interview round, and ultimately 10 candidates, including the author, were chosen for full-time roles.
Round 1: Technical Assessment
This round tested technical skills and included one coding question, one SQL question, and multiple-choice questions covering various technical topics.
Round 2: Combined Technical and HR Interview
The interview started with a discussion on cloud services, including types of cloud services (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) and real-world examples. Specific AWS services like EC2, Lambda, DynamoDB, and CloudWatch were discussed, along with their uses and relevance. Database-related questions were asked, covering the differentiation between types of indexes, various types of joins with SQL queries, and the importance of Database Management Systems (DBMS). Oracle database-specific questions involved physical components and the significance of disaster recovery. The coding segment focused on problem-solving, while the SQL component required writing and optimizing queries, especially concerning joins and indexing. The HR-Tech part involved behavioral questions to assess cultural fit within the organization.
Advice: Be well-prepared for technical questions in cloud services, database management, and project details. Keep coding and SQL skills updated. During HR-Tech interviews, emphasize communication skills and cultural fit. Provide real-world examples to demonstrate understanding.
