Barclays visited Pune Institute Of Computer Technology in September 2023 for a Software Engineer role for the 2024 batch. Eligibility required 65% and above in 10th & 12th, and a CGPA of 7 and above with no active or passive backlogs.
Round 1: Online Assessment
The OA was conducted on HackerEarth and lasted 1 hour 30 minutes, consisting of 14 questions. The first 12 questions were MCQs based on Java, SQL, C++, error handling, and OOPs, with easy to medium difficulty. The 13th question was an SQL query to find customer information from October in ascending order (date in yy-mm-dd format). The last question was a coding problem titled "String Generation". To clear this round, basic concepts of CS fundamentals like DBMS, Java, OOP, and DSA were essential.
Round 2: In-person Interview (Technical + HR)
The interview lasted approximately 45-50 minutes and was taken by a VP at Barclays, who was leading a DevOps team. It began with the interviewer's introduction, followed by the candidate's self-introduction covering educational background, technical skills, and projects. The interviewer showed interest in one project, asking for a detailed explanation and functionality-based questions. The discussion then moved to OOP, with questions like "What's all this hype about Object-oriented programming?" and detailed inquiries about pillars, dynamic method dispatchers, and access modifiers. A DSA problem was given: take an entire sentence as input and return the word with the maximum length (solved in C++ and Python on paper). Questions were also asked about Cloud Computing, specifically AWS and service models, even though it wasn't on the resume. Finally, 2-3 HR-related situational questions were asked (e.g., helping a team member while having a tight schedule). The candidate also asked questions about the team and domain.
