The candidate applied to ThoughtWorks Bangalore for a Senior Consultant (Java Full Stack with ReactJS) role and underwent four comprehensive interview rounds in December 2023.
Telephonic Screening Interview (30 mins):
Conducted by a technical recruiter, this round focused on relevant experience, including Java concepts, multithreading, databases, cloud technologies, LLD/HLD, microservices, and exposure to frontend technologies (ReactJS).
Round 1: Code-pairing Round (1 hour 30 minutes)
Scheduled a week after screening, the candidate received a GitHub repository link (SpringBoot project) to clone and configure. The round started with interviewers presenting a task board, from which the candidate selected a task. The evaluation focused on problem analysis, task breakdown, code reuse, refactoring, and adherence to best practices like SOLID principles and TDD. Interviewers guided the process and asked about core Java/Spring concepts.
Round 2: Technical Round (1 hour 30 minutes)
Two experienced interviewers assessed technical depth and breadth, focusing on Java and SpringBoot, and awareness of alternative technologies. In-depth questions were asked about the candidate's tech stack and project architecture (drawing on a whiteboard). Scenario-based questions on project architecture, SQL queries (expecting Criteria Builder API solution), and System Design (Restaurant/Hotel booking database schema) were also posed. Git concepts (rebase, pull, merge, hotfix branches) were discussed.
Round 3: Leadership Round
This round included behavioral questions like: "What was the reason for your job change?", "When was the last time you faced a conflict in your team and how did you resolve it?", "What kind of people do you prefer not to work with?", "What was your biggest challenge and how did you overcome it?", and "What has been your biggest achievement thus far?". Honesty and demonstrating leadership potential were key.
Round 4: Social Values Round
The final round focused on social values, including diversity, equity, and inclusion, working with diverse backgrounds, contributions to society, and using technology for social problems. Discussions also revolved around situations of exclusion and personal social causes. The questions were thought-provoking.
The overall experience was described as challenging and insightful, allowing the candidate to showcase their strengths.
