The candidate interviewed for a Graduate Trainee Engineer position at Siemens in March 2024. The process began with an online assessment on HackerEarth.
Online Assessment
This assessment covered aptitude (puzzles, profit/loss, simple/compound interest, probability, speed/distance/time problems) and coding. There were two medium-level coding challenges focusing on strings, bit manipulation, and dynamic programming, requiring a solid understanding of algorithms and data structures.
The Big Interview: A Technical & HR Mashup
Surprisingly, the interview process consisted of a single, combined technical and HR session conducted at their Pune office, lasting about an hour. It included a deep dive into the candidate's resume, projects, and previous experiences. A database design challenge required drawing the database structure for one of the projects. Questions about the importance of user experience (UX) and how to improve it in specific scenarios were asked. Situation-based questions were used to gauge problem-solving skills. Finally, standard HR questions covered personality, career aspirations, and company fit. The candidate received an offer after a two-week wait.
