Samsung R&D visited the campus for a Research and Development Profile. Eligible branches included CSE, ECE, and EEE, with a minimum CGPA of 7.0 (though 7.5 and above was preferred in practice).
Round 1 (Coding Test): This was a 3-hour coding round conducted on their proprietary platform. Candidates were required to solve one coding question and pass all 50 test cases to be shortlisted. The initial coding question was about a spacecraft traveling from a source (S) to a destination (D). For a second attempt, the question given was the "Energy distance problem."
Technical Round 1: This interview was based on the candidate's CV. Questions covered various technical areas including Linux Commands, a Stack-related problem, Binary Tree concepts (such as the relationship between height and nodes in worst and average cases, and traversals), Object-Oriented Programming (OOPS) questions, a brief discussion on LRU Cache, and some React Native questions. The interviewer also inquired about the candidate's relatively low academic pointer (7.33).
Technical Round 2: The interviewer asked the candidate to write and explain the coding question that was given in Round 1. Further questions included Inheritance-related concepts and a variation of the "Rotten Oranges" problem, where the twist involved bombs and chain reactions, requiring both code and explanation. C++ specific questions, such as virtual functions and virtual tables, were also discussed.
HR Round (Puzzle Round): For this candidate, the HR round turned into another short Technical round. Questions included a self-introduction, microcontroller questions (as the candidate was from an ECE background, and the interviewer was not satisfied with the answers), "Why Samsung?", and "In which company are you currently placed?" The interviewer then proceeded to compare Samsung with other companies. Other questions touched upon a one-year gap in education and the low academic pointer. The candidate was also given an opportunity to ask questions. Ultimately, 12 students received offers, and the candidate was not among them.
