Rounds: 7 rounds (HackerRank, 1 in-person, 3 virtual, 2 management)
Topics Asked: HackerRank (technical quiz), general technical knowledge, application stack (cloud and application transitions), behavioral questions.
The candidate started the interview process in late February 2024 after being recommended by a recruiter on LinkedIn. The first step was a HackerRank quiz, which the candidate found not difficult. An interviewer later mentioned that the candidate was the first person to pass this technical round in over a year.
The first round was an in-person interview in midtown NYC. This was followed by three virtual interview rounds with members of the IT team. The candidate received positive feedback for their technical knowledge and responses. A "red flag" noted by the candidate was the presence of a silent, unannounced third participant (a video conferencing unit) in each virtual interview.
Subsequently, the candidate had two interviews with management, including the hiring manager. During these interviews, the candidate mentioned a couple of "gaffes," such as accidentally using the hiring manager's last name and slightly overrepresenting experience with a certain technology. However, the general impression was that the candidate had full experience in their application stack and could solve current technical problems like cloud and application transitions.
After these rounds, the candidate was told that an offer was forthcoming but then was asked for an additional call with the hiring manager, where they were informed that Squarepoint had decided to reject them. The candidate felt that the company was unprofessional and the process had several "red flags."
