This on-campus interview experience for the Associate Software Developer Engineer L1 role involved three rounds.
Round 1: Online Test
Conducted on HackerRank, this round had two medium-level coding questions to be solved in 75 minutes. Both questions were based on strings and substrings. Specific questions were: "Distinct palindromic sub-strings of a string" and "Subsequences of a string in sorted order" (similar to generating distinct subsequences in lexicographic order). The candidate solved both, and 12 out of 135 students were selected for the next round.
Round 2: Domain Interview (Technical)
This was an online face-to-face technical round on the Hirepro platform, where candidates had to code, compile, and explain their approach. The interview began with an introduction, followed by questions on the candidate's Python (Django Framework) project. Questions included: "Explain Architecture of Django", "How to connect Django project to the database", "What are different Inheritance styles in Django", and "Use of Middlewares in Django". A coding question was given: "Remove duplicate entries of emails from employee data", which the candidate solved using hashing. A follow-up to this question asked how to find the "top 10 Employees according to their performance marks," which the candidate proposed solving using inherited classes and had to code this approach. OOPS questions covered "access modifiers" and "Static Binding and Dynamic Binding". The interview lasted around 50-60 minutes.
Round 3: Attribute Interview (HR)
The HR round started with an introduction. Questions included: "Do you know what HR do?", "Why Sapient?", "What are your leadership skills?", "How you influence others?", "How would your friends describe you?", "Where you see yourself in 3-4 years?", and "Dream company?". The candidate also asked for overall feedback. After both interviews, HR announced that 2 students were shortlisted, and the candidate was one of them.
