This experience is for a Software Engineer role at UBank, a part of NAB, located in Bangalore, India, with the interview taking place in early 2024. The candidate had 5 years of experience and a primary skillset as a Fullstack JS developer.
Round 1: Hackerrank Round
This round consisted of 3 questions: a string manipulation problem (easy), an implementation of throttling (medium difficulty), and a JS/UI question to implement stack and queue in vanilla HTML + JQuery (medium difficulty).
Round 2: Technical 1
This round was focused on Frontend technologies. Questions were asked related to the browser, DOM, JQuery, and "very esoteric questions" about React JS. The emphasis was on vanilla technologies rather than frameworks or libraries.
Round 3: Technical 2
This round involved a 3-part question that needed to be implemented using vanilla HTML, CSS, and JQuery. Each part built on the previous one, gradually increasing in difficulty.
Round 4: HR Round
Standard HR questions were asked, including those about personal projects and the reasons for wanting to switch jobs. The interviewer was reportedly not convinced by the candidate's reasons for switching. The candidate mentioned a poor overall impression of the company due to negative online reviews, mixed opinions from current employees, and issues with the recruiter's scheduling and communication.
Overall Experience: The candidate experienced a "mutual rejection" as they were mentally prepared to decline an offer due to a negative impression of the company and recruiter issues.
