The internship selection process for a Software Engineer Intern at MIQ Digital was an intense journey with high competition, seeing around 250 applicants. The process consisted of multiple rounds of tests and interviews.
First Round: Online Assessment
This round was conducted on HackerRank and included 15 MCQs on Java OOPs concepts. There were two coding problems: one involved choosing the right flask for a lab with the least waste, and the second was comparing two strings with backspace characters (where '#' denotes a backspace). Additionally, two SQL queries were given to test database skills. Candidates had a two-day window to complete the test, and out of 250 students, 60 were selected for the next round.
Second Round: Gamified Assessment
This round utilized Perspective AI and featured five mini-games, including finding patterns in shapes and personality-based activities. The questions were generally easy, focusing on logic and personality. After this round, 20 students advanced to the next stage.
Surprise Coding Test on Interview Day
Before the actual interview, a surprise 30-minute coding test was administered. The questions included finding a missing number in an array and removing the nth node from the end of a linked list. Following this test, 12 out of 20 candidates were shortlisted for the technical interview.
Technical Interview
The technical interview began with a discussion of the surprise coding test, where the candidate had to explain their solution and analyze its time and space complexity. The interviewer then allowed the candidate to choose a subject, and OOPs was selected. Questions included explaining abstraction and polymorphism as if to a 10-year-old, and discussing the use of getter and setter functions. Database design was also covered, requiring the candidate to design a database for a college and write a query based on it. The last 30 minutes focused on the candidate's projects and some JavaScript questions, such as how the event loop works. Five candidates moved on to the HR round.
HR Round
The HR round included questions about strengths and weaknesses, interest in higher education, and ability to handle work pressure. Details regarding stipend, package, and location were also explained. The next day, results were announced, and the candidate was one of two selected out of five for the position.
