MathWorks visited the campus on August 6th, 2021, for both FTE and internship roles. The interview process for the FTE offer involved five rounds.
Round 1 was an Online Test consisting of 44 questions. Sections included Mathematics, CS fundamentals (OOPs, DBMS, OS), C/C++ MCQs (requiring in-depth knowledge of syntax, STL, OOPs), Java MCQs (medium level), and Python MCQs (bonus section, mostly Numpy, Pandas, and syntax-based). There were two coding questions. One coding question was "Element 1st array count elements less equal 2nd array" (referencing GeeksforGeeks). The second coding question involved forming the maximum length word chain from an array of strings by deleting one character at a time, where each resulting string must also exist in the array. A key challenge was answering the two coding questions in two different languages (C/C++, Java, Python).
Round 2 was a Group Discussion (GD) round, where 50 students were shortlisted. Groups had 5 students, and the topic for discussion was "skillset required to grow in corporate life". The GD had three sub-rounds: sharing opinions, sharing innovative thoughts, and debating.
Round 3 was a Technical Round. The interviewer first reviewed the resume and asked about projects, including technologies used. The candidate chose C and C++ as programming languages. The interviewer used a HackerRank online shareable IDE and presented input/output questions on C++ OOPs, which were of medium-hard difficulty. The candidate was asked to explain polymorphism with practical examples, followed by DSA questions. Justification for time and space complexities of approaches was also required.
Round 4 was a Managerial Round. It started with an introduction, followed by behavioral questions such as handling conflict with team members, dealing with unknown problem solutions, and showing leadership. Questions also included project motivation, solo vs. team project, challenges faced, and professor's feedback.
Round 5 was the HR Round, described as friendly and humble. Specific questions were not detailed, but it was the final round.
