The MathWorks recruitment drive began with an online test. This round lasted 1 hour 30 minutes and consisted of 45 questions across several sections. The sections included Mathematics (6 MCQs - Aptitude), Computer Science (10 MCQs - OS, DBMS, Networks, DS, Algorithm), C (7 MCQs), C++ (7 MCQs), Java (7 MCQs), and Python (6 MCQs, considered a bonus section). Candidates had to choose any two sections among C, C++, and Java. There were also two coding questions. The first coding question involved a sequence of binary numbers to find the minimum 'k' such that the sum of the first 'k' elements is greater than the sum of the remaining elements. The second coding question was about finding the minimum steps to reach a target by a Knight, referencing a GeeksforGeeks problem. Both coding questions needed to be implemented in different languages.
Round 2 was a Group Discussion (GD) for 15 minutes, serving as an elimination round. Groups consisted of 10 students, and topics were related to politics, demonetization, or teamwork.
Round 3 was a Technical Interview lasting 1.5 hours. It started with an introduction and a discussion of projects mentioned in the resume. Questions covered basics of Machine Learning, Compiler and Operating Systems (size of integer, 32-bit vs 64-bit machines, word size, bus size, padding, INODE, FAT), and OOPs concepts. Pointers were heavily tested with output questions requiring reasons for the output. Specific coding problems included sorting a given Queue without extra space and finding the maximum sum of an array without taking two adjacent elements.
Round 4 was a Managerial Round, lasting 1 hour. This round started with an introduction and then moved to several situation-based questions. Questions included time management, working under pressure, prioritizing work, handling multiple deadlines, convincing people, teamwork/leadership, learning methods, integrity, and location/domain preferences.
Round 5 was the HR Round, lasting 30 minutes. It covered standard HR questions like introduction, "Why Mathworks?", location preference, family background, knowledge about the company and job role, and self-rating on technical interview performance.
