This candidate secured an off-campus offer for the SDE-1 role at MakeMyTrip Bengaluru in 2022, applying through a LinkedIn referral in May 2022.
Round 1: Online Assessment (HackerEarth)
This round consisted of 22 questions: 2 coding problems and 20 MCQs. The coding questions were of moderate difficulty, based on Dynamic Programming (DP) and graphs, both of which the candidate solved. MCQs covered core Computer Science subjects such as DBMS, OS, CN, SQL, OOPs, along with some output-based and aptitude questions.
Round 2: DSA and Problem-Solving (June 26, 2022)
The interviewer began with an introduction and then delved into the candidate's internship experience, projects, and tech stacks. Two coding questions were given: "Longest Consecutive Sequence" and "Maximum Frequency Stack," both found on LeetCode. The candidate first explained a brute-force approach, then optimized it, and finally implemented the solution on an online IDE. Additionally, the candidate was asked to write code to generate all permutations of a given string. Questions on core CS subjects like OOPs, OS, DBMS, and CN were also part of this round.
Round 3: Managerial + Technical (Team Fitment) (June 30, 2022)
This round included questions on the difference between threads and processes, process synchronization, deadlock, SQL vs. NoSQL DBMS, the language MongoDB is written in, different layers in Computer Networks, HTTP vs. HTTPS, what happens when searching something online, how to secure a site, and how data can be leaked. The interviewer also discussed the role and responsibilities for a fresher at MakeMyTrip.
Round 4: HR Round (June 30, 2022)
The HR informed the candidate of their selection and asked general questions regarding hobbies, interests, location preferences (Bengaluru/Gurgaon), and availability. The offer letter was received on the same day.
Tips and Suggestions: The candidate advised practicing problem-solving skills, covering popular questions, and having a strong knowledge of Data Structures and Algorithms (DSA) and CS subjects. Confidence, asking for hints when stuck, and thinking aloud during problem-solving were also highlighted as important.
