ION Group visited the campus for a pool recruitment drive in September 2020. The entire virtual process, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, was completed within a week and comprised four stages.
1. Stage 1: Academic Criteria: Students with a basic cut-off of around 60-65% throughout their academics and no backlogs were eligible. Interested candidates filled a form with basic details and their preferred profile (DEV or CS).
2. Stage 2: Computer-Based Online Recruitment Test (AMCAT): All shortlisted candidates underwent an AMCAT test consisting of English, Quantitative Ability, Logical Ability, and Programming sections. These sections appeared in a fixed order, each with a specific time limit, and all questions had to be answered. The difficulty level was perceived as easy-medium.
3. Stage 3: Technical Interview (Microsoft Teams - 60-75 minutes): This round was conducted virtually with one interviewer. It started with a casual conversation to ease the candidate, followed by a self-introduction. The interviewer then directly presented a case study. The entire interview revolved around this discussion, with the interviewer allowing time for thought organization and engaging in a dialogue. The aim was to present innovative ideas and structured answers. Some behavioral questions related to teamwork, leadership qualities, and personal achievements were also integrated, sometimes discussed with an engineering VP.
4. Stage 4: ION Day: The results of the technical interview were shared the next day, with qualifying students proceeding to ION Day. This began with a half-hour induction presentation/pre-placement talk. The ION Day included a round where candidates were presented with a comprehension-style scenario and had to present their views with supporting points. Another part of ION Day involved a discussion with the VP of Engineering, where a picture depicting software development life cycles was shown, and candidates had to choose between two scenarios and justify their choice.
Tips: Think aloud and interact with the interviewer about your approach. Research the company thoroughly. Use real-life scenarios to support your answers. Be well-versed with OOPs and SDLC concepts (including real-life implementations). Practice common puzzles and riddles.
