Experience:

This experience is for an AVP/SDE3 (Grade 602) position, with the interviews taking place in June 2024. The candidate had 5 years of experience. The process involved 3 elimination rounds, and the entire process took only a week.

Round 1 (1 hour): Coding

This round was taken by a VP and involved two coding questions.

• Coding Question 1: A recursion question similar to LeetCode's "Combination Sum II." The interviewer ran the code with multiple test cases, and the candidate's code passed all scenarios.
• Coding Question 2: Given an Array, remove all odd numbers, multiply each number by a constant, and then return the sum. All operations were to be done using Java streams. The candidate was able to write the code as they had experience with Java streams.

The feedback for this round was positive, and the next round was scheduled for the same day.

Round 2 (1 hour): Java Interview

This round was taken by an SDE3. It started with brief introductions, followed by the candidate explaining one of their projects. As the position was Java-focused, many questions were asked about Java and Spring.

• Java Topics: Features of Java 8, 11, and 17; What is Spring? Why use Spring? Difference between Spring and Spring Boot; Runnable and Callable; Types of exceptions in Java; Exception hierarchy; Multithreading questions; Different Design Patterns in Java (with examples); How autowiring works in Spring; What is Spring Security?

The candidate, having 5 years of experience with Java & Spring, was able to answer the questions, sometimes explaining by example when the literal definition was not recalled. The interviewer was supportive. Positive feedback was received, and the final round was scheduled for the next day.

Round 3 (1 hour): HM + Behavioral

This final round was with an Executive Director. It began with introductions. The interviewer asked the candidate to explain the design of a recent project, including follow-up questions. The second part focused on behavioral questions:

• Why JP Morgan, considering it's a bank and the pace might be different?
• A situation where there was a disagreement with a manager and how it was handled.
• Scenarios where the candidate led a project.
• Any initiatives taken at work.

The candidate used the STAR technique for behavioral questions, and the interviewer was impressed. After 2-3 days, the candidate received a call confirming selection. Although selected, the candidate ultimately didn't join JPMC due to another offer.
